2013 Chevrolet Traverse Facelift Revealed, Debuts New Face for Chevy's Crossover Models

We won't have to wait until the New York Auto Show to see what the reworked 2013 Chevrolet Traverse looks like as General Motors has just dropped the first batch of official photos.

The first thing that catches your eyes is of course the brand new fascia as Chevrolet has abandoned its signature two-tier grille spilt by a horizontal bar for a less complicated five-point upper grille with thee chromed horizontal slats and a separate two-bar lower grille.

GM says that the 2013 Traverse's "more expressive front end introduces a new face for Chevrolet crossover utilities", which means we will probably be seeing more of the new grille, unless of course, consumer reaction is negative to the change.

The front of the crossover model also features a new powerdome hood, reshaped headlamps, chrome accents around the grille and fog lamps, and sculpted front corners that are similar similar to the 2013 Malibu sedan.

GM Debuts Automotive Industry's First Front Center Air Bag

Someone once said that in the future, the inner works of our vehicles after a crash will look like a balloon party – sans the bright colors. And true enough, after the front, side, roof, knee, rear curtain and seat-belt airbags, automakers have now discovered another area of the car that can be fitted with an inflatable bag for our protection: the center.

Following Toyota's presentation of the first production rear-seat center airbag on the Japanese domestic market Crown Majesta in 2009, General Motors is introducing the automotive industry's first front center air bag, designed to protect the driver and front passenger in far-side impact crashes.

GM Upping the Ante by Offering Rival Vehicles for Test Drive

According to a report from Reuters, General Motors is preparing for try-the-competition test drives in Chicago, L.A., Philadelphia, and Miami.

The project, called "Test Drive Studio", goes something like this: when consumers walk into a participating dealership, they'll be offered test drives in the mid-size Malibu and the Equinox and Traverse crossovers.

After that, GM puts its (and the US taxpayers') money where its mouth is: they'll offer people the chance to go out in comparable Fords, Toyotas, and Hondas.
