New 2013 Buick Verano Turbo Comes with 250HP and a Choice of Manual or Automatic Transmissions

GM surprised us today with the unveiling of a new version of the Buick Verano that not only sports a much more powerful turbocharged engine but for the first time, also gives the option of a manual transmission.

While its understated looks make it seem like the regular 180hp Verano with the only giveaways being a discreet "T" badge, the dual exhaust outlets and a barely visible decklid spoiler, the Turbo is actually faster than the 270hp Regal GS.

A Rare Buick Reatta Meeting in Los Angeles

The Buick Reatta is one of those cars with some fairly interesting details that only time will tell if it will become a collectable classic.

Presented in coupe form in 1988 with a soft-top convertible following in 1990, the Reatta was Buick's first modern-era two-seater model. Both body styles remained in production until 1991.

Unusually for a mass produced model, the Reatta was hand-built at the Reatta Craft Centre in Lansing, Michigan. Its platform was essentially a shortened version of the GM E chassis used by the Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Riviera, and was shared with the Cadillac Allante.

GM Wants Cadillac to Follow in the Successful Footsteps of Buick in China

Last year, Buick sold 177,633 vehicles in the States and 645,537 cars in China, with the Excelle, which is the local version of the Verano sedan, taking the first spot overall in the passenger car segment.

Cadillac, on the other hand, delivered 152,389 vehicles in the U.S. but only about 30,000 in the world's most populous country, despite an increase of 73 percent over 2010.

Given China's thirst for luxury products, it is no wonder that General Motors would like to repeat the success of Buick with its flagship brand.

According to General Motors CEO Dan Akerson, who was speaking on the company's first quarter earnings call for 2012, there is a plan in motion to boost Cadillac's sales in China six-fold in the next few years.

2013 Buick Enclave Heads to New York Auto Show with a Fresh Face and Updated Interior

Even though 2011 proved to be the best sales year ever for the Buick Enclave crossover since its introduction in May of 2007 with more than 58,000 deliveries, GM wants to keep the momentum going with the presentation of a facelifted model at the New York Auto Show.

Scheduled to reach U.S. showrooms this fall, the 2013 Enclave benefits from several updates including restyled exterior and interior, a refined suspension and the addition of new technologies.

The exterior makeover consists of a new fascia with restyled headlamps, bumper and hood, a more prominent black chrome waterfall grille and LED daytime running lights. At back, we find new LED tail lamps with chrome accents and a redesigned bumper with integrated exhaust tips.

A new set of alloy wheel designs round out the exterior changes, which bring the Enclave in line with Buick's more recent offerings like the Verano compact sedan.

As it turns out, the 7 ft 1 in (2.16m) tall and 325 pounds (147 kg) former center can fit in the LaCrosse, something he points out in the ad with punch lines like "I've got shoes that are bigger than a hybrid...and are more stylish" in reference to other models in the market.

Buick Regal Gains New Auto Transmission for GS and Standard eAssist for 2013MY

2013 Buick Encore is a Nissan Juke-Sized Small Crossover [Updated]

Car manufactures always try to devise new ways to get the most publicity out of launching a new product. Sending a press release and some images, or pulling the wraps off at a motor show, is simply not enough.

For the all-new Buick Encore, GM chose to reveal pieces of a puzzle that completed an image of the vehicle. Yet, even though we could see most of it, the final piece that was missing fell into place today at the Detroit Auto Show.

And the Best-Selling Premium Brand in the U.S. for 2011 is…

The one thing we knew for sure after the manufacturing disruptions in Japan caused by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami was that Lexus wasn’t going to top the premium segment in the U.S. market for the first time in a decade. In fact, we also knew something else, the two contenders to the throne: BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

What we didn’t know up until Thursday is which of two brands was going to win, since both were caught in a neck-to-neck sales race. Going into December the gap was so small - less than 1,600 cars- that the win could go either way.

Buick has released the second from a total of four teaser shots that will uncover the new 2013 Encore small crossover ahead of its world premiere at next month's Detroit Motor Show.
