Scoop: Peugeot Continues Trialing 301 Test Mules

These new spy pictures show a test mule of the Peugeot 308 compact hatchback's replacement being tested in Europe. While the exterior panels of the prototype are from the current 308, underneath it’s a different story as it rides on a new platform with wider front and rear tracks that's shared with the Citroen C4 and DS4 models.

The French firm's new model will likely be named 301, as Peugeot would like to skip the 309 moniker that was used on its 1980s compact hatch.

Like the smaller 208, Peugeot's Golf rival is expected to be both more compact in length and lighter than the model it replaces with obvious benefits in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

Scoop: Peugeot Mule-Testing 308's Replacement, which will Likely be Named 301

Peugeot usually designs beautiful cars. The mid-1980's 309 wasn’t one of them, perhaps because it was originally meant to replace the Chrysler/Simca/Talbot Horizon – until Peugeot axed the Talbot brand, and thus the 309 was born.

Almost no one really missed it when it was replaced in 1993 by the much more coherent 306 (though the 309 continued to be built in India until the late 1990s).

And the reason why we're telling you all this is because the 308's replacement, a test mule of which is featured in these scoops, will most likely be named 301, a moniker last used in the 1930s, to avoid any connection with the unloved 309.

Scoop: 2012 Peugeot 2008 Small Crossover to Take on the Nissan Juke

It's been over a year since the PSA Peugeot-Citroën group announced an agreement with Mitsubishi to develop and adapt the Japanese company's ASX small crossover for its two brands in Europe and possibly other markets down the road.

Now, our spy photographers have captured the Peugeot-branded version of the Mitsubishi ASX, which is also called the Outlander Sport in the USA, and RVR in Japan and Canada, while testing in Europe. From what we understand and judging by the firm's current naming literature, the Peugeot model will carry the 2008 moniker.

SCOOP: Peugeot Trying Out New High-Riding 508 Outdoor

It has only been a few months since Peugeot spun out its newly designed 508 mid-size model in both saloon and Station Wagon formats, but the French acarmaker is already working on a new derivative inspired by its high-riding 207 Outdoor model.

Our spy photographers snagged a prototype version of the 508 Outdoor testing on European roads. Even though Peugeot’s full-body plastic wraps leave much to the imagination, it is obvious that the car rides on a jacked up suspension.

SPIED: 2012 Peugeot 508 Station Wagon?

Our colegas at Diariomotor got themselves a series of spy photos showing what they claim to be a heavily disguised prototype of the Peugeot 508 Station Wagon. The French carmaker teased the sedan version of the 508, which will replace both the 407 and 607 saloons, with the "5 by Peugeot" concept model at the 2010 Geneva Salon this past March.

New Peugeot 508 Flagship Sedan Snagged Undisguised During Filming?

A photograph of an undisguised 2011 Peugeot 508 sedan (or at least that's the most likely badge), allegedly captured during the filming of a promotional clip somewhere in Madrid, Spain, has been making the internet rounds today.

If it's the real deal, then it appears that Peugeot's designers have toned down the styling a little compared to the near-production concept model, called the "5 by Peugeot", that was showcased in Geneva earlier this year (see here).
