Toyota GT86 Twincharged Sports FR Concept with 315HP to Race at Goodwood Hillclimb [New Photos]

The upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 28 - July 1, 2012) is shaping up to be an extremely interesting event for gearheads and motor racing enthusiasts alike.

Today, Toyota confirmed the participation of the all-new GRMN Sports FR Concept based on the GT86 (a sister model to the Scion FR-S) at the famous Goodwood hillclimb.

The track concept was built by Toyota's motorsports partner Gazoo Racing, which boosted the standard model's 2.0-liter flat-four boxer with the addition of both a turbo- and supercharger that lift output from 200hp to 315hp (320PS) and peak torque from 205Nm (151 lb-ft) to 421Nm (310.5 lb-ft).

A modified six-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels while other changes include a dedicated GRMN-tuned suspension that brings the car closer to the ground, larger brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels and a unique sports body kit.

Toyota Launches New Aero Kit with Giant Rear Wing for 86 Sports Coupe in Australia

One after the other, Toyota's local divisions are presenting new accessories for the 86 rear-wheel drive sports coupe, which is also known as the GT86 in Europe and the Scion FR-S in North America.

After the Five:AD aero package in the States for the FR-S, and a selection of styling parts from Toyota Europe for the GT 86, it's time for the brand's Australian arm to create a comprehensive aero package for the 86.

The kit consists of a new front bumper skirt with vertical fins to control air entering the front grille and dual canards at 12-degree angles, side skirts, a rear bumper apron housing a diffuser plus a large rear spoiler with horizontal 'winglets' on the uprights.

The First Documented Crash of a Scion FR-S

We knew it was destined to happen sooner or later: the first reported crash of a Scion FR-S. The hapless driver is a member of the FT86 Club forums who goes by the nickname Neutral.

The 24-year old FR-S owner posted two pictures and a rather remorseful account of the incident that occurred during a right turn when he lost control of the rear-wheel drive sports car at about 20mph (32km/h) and then ended up smashing it into a telephone pole.

Toyota, Subaru and Scion all tell us that their co-developed trio of rear-wheel drive sports coupes, namely the 86/GT86, BRZ and FR-S, are powered by the same 2.0-liter flat-four that produces 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft (205Nm) at the flywheel.
