What makes this video of particular importance is not the lightly camouflaged car itself, but the sounds produced from its front-mounted engine, as it appears to be sporting a turbocharged powerplant.
With the presentation of the Enzo's replacement having being confirmed for the end of 2012 by Ferrari’s Chairman Luca di Montezemolo himself, it's actually surprising that the Italians have managed to keep the supercar under wraps for such a long time.
Today, we got word from one of our readers that a friend of a member of the Ferrarichat community snagged a very interesting prototype driving around the company's headquarters in Maranello, Italy, and which we believe to be the next Enzo that may or may not be called the F70.
What looks at first in these spy pictures like a shooting-break prototype of the 458 Italia is in fact a test mule for Ferrari's next top supercar and a replacement for the Enzo.
Many believe that Maranello's forthcoming flagship model will continue the naming tradition that started with the F40 and F50, and as such, will be called the F70.
Like many other carmakers, Ferrari doesn't disclose a lot of details about its upcoming production models, something that leaves plenty of room for speculation and rumors, the latest coming from Motor Trendmagazine.
The publication reports that the Ferrari Enzo's replacement will be shown to select customers at a private event this fall before it makes its official world premiere next year, most likely at the 2013 Geneva Salon in March.
The two-seater replacement for Ferrari's 599 GTB Fiorano, which will likely be called christened the F620 GT, wasn't supposed to come out in the open before February 29, as stated in the company's teaser videos.
However, we don't have to wait that long for our first look at Ferrari's new supercar model as a reader of GTSpirit was able to take a quick shot of the car during what appears to be some sort of a presentation.
The new model adopts a similar design language to the Ferrari FF with curved fenders and a large grille up front, behind which you'll find what the Italian automaker describes as the most powerful engine ever to be used in a regular production Ferrari.
The styling of its cars may have changed several times over the years but one thing remains the same: the magnificent sounds Ferrari's 12-cylinder engines.
The replacement for the Ferrari 599 is no exception, even in an unpolished prototype form. The heavily camo'd test car was filmed around the Italian carmaker's Maranello headquarters with the driver doing his best to please our ears…
During a recent trip to Maranello to visit the Ferrari Museum, Carscoop reader Edward Chew along with a close friend spotted this heavily camouflaged Ferrari prototype (or test mule) doing the rounds on the Italian firm's Fiorano test track.
Edward tells us that he and his friend were not sure what kind of model might be hiding behind all that cladding.
If you take a closer look at the prototype in the scoop pictures, you'll see that it has an extremely low bonnet and air outlets located at the rear end of the car, which can only mean that this is a mid-engine Ferrari model.
Now, we only know of one new mid-engined supercar that Ferrari has officially confirmed, and that's the Enzo's successor.
Ferrari's engineers have been working overtime in the past year as the Italian company has several new or updated models in the pipeline, including a replacement for the 599 GTB Fiorano that we scooped last week, a new flagship Enzo model and a mild facelift for the California.
And if these fresh spy shots are anything to go by, Ferrari may also be readying a new addition to its California hardtop-roadster family.
As reported previously, the 2012 California that is expected early next year will be updated from within featuring a more powerful 4.3-liter V8 with around 490-horses, a faster transmission and a lighter chassis with upgraded suspension bits.
Once again, we have caught Ferrari's 599 GTB Fiorano replacement testing out in the open, but unlike the previous test mule we captured on film wearing the current model's body panels, this one is a prototype of the final production model.
The next 599 GTB, which is currently known only by its internal F152 codename, will compete against the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. It is scheduled to be revealed at the 2012 edition of the Geneva Salon in March, with sales to follow later in the year.
Back to our scoop photos, Ferrari's engineers made sure that we couldn't see the details of its new top supercar as the prototype was craftily covered in a puffy suite. However, the front-engine arrangement and long nose are clearly visible while we also get a peek of the deeply mounted LED tail lamps.
Ferrari seems to be hell bent on replacing its entire lineup in just two years time. In 2010, Maranello revealed the F430’s successor, the gorgeous 458 Italia. This year, the not-so-beautiful (to put it nicely) 612 Scaglietti gave its place to the brand’s first ever four-wheel-drive sports GT, the shooting-brake-bodied FF.
And only three days ago, the Italians debuted the F430 Spider’s replacement, the 458 Italia Spider featuring a retractable hard top that will make its world premiere at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
After the launch of the 458 Italia and more recently, the four-seater FF, Ferrari is now concentrating on the development of its next supercar, which will replace the 599 GTB Fiorano and is currently known by its F152 codename.
Our spy photographers caught up with a test mule of the F152 wearing a modified body shell of the current 599 GTO over a new chassis that is believed to share many components with the FF.
Ferrari's four-seat supercar will also lend its new 6.3-liter V12 with direct-injection technology to the F152, but further honed to develop around 700 horsepower. However, we won't see the FF's all-wheel drive system as Ferrari will keep the F152 strictly rear-wheel drive.
It won't be long before we get to see the new Ferrari FF in the flesh at the Geneva Salon, but until then, we'll have to do with whatever additional photos the Italians decide to publish and if we're lucky, some private scoops like these videos posted by a Youtube user who caught the all-wheel drive supercar completely undisguised in Barcelona Spain. Sadly, the person behind the (phone?) camera didn't quite manage to capture the car as we'd like. Nevertheless, if your neck can handle some twisting, hop over the jump to watch the three clips. A prototype model of the Ferrari 599 covered in black cladding has been snagged on film during testing at the Fiorano circuit. We're not entirely sure if it's a test mule for a replacement of the 599 or an updated version of the current model, possibly featuring Ferrari's upcoming KERS energy-recovery system which was first shown on the Geneva Salon HY-KERS hybrid concept.
In any case, the vented hood and the styling of the bumpers point towards a prototype based on the 670-horsepower 599 GTO, which was introduced into the range this past April, with some minor changes such as the California-esque LED headlamps. Watch the video right after the jump.
What is believed to be a test mule of the next Ferrari 612 Scaglietti using the current model's sheet metal as camouflage, was spied doing the rounds at the Italian firm's Fiorano race track near Maranello. From what we know up until now, the 612 Scaglietti's replacement is due in showrooms by early 2012 and will benefit from a lighter chassis and a revised V12 engine with direct-injection. Read more »
A Youtube user has uploaded a video of a heavily cladded sports car prototype spotted earlier this week near Ferrari's factory in Maranello, Italy. The blacked out test vehicle's long nose suggests that this may be a front-engined supercar - possibly a replacement for the 599, though there's no way of being sure. Follow the break to see the short film, and let us know what you think the mystery car is.
A Youtube user has posted this video of what is claimed to be a prototype version of the upcoming Ferrari 458 Italia Challenge filmed during testing at the Monza race track. We can't say for sure if it's the real deal or not, but it does appear to pack a similar kit to the 458 Italia Challenge prototype we showed you back in May (click here). Watch the video after the break. Read more »
Is this Ferrari's 458 Italia Challenge weekend racer? It sure does look like it. According to Axis of Oversteer, the car was spied at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy. As you can see from the pics, the 458 Italia has special tires, center-locking wheels, a lexan window, and tow hooks. Read more »
[UPDATE - Apparently the photos of the 599 GTO are the real deal as the head of Ferrari's notoriously friendly legal department sent us a not so friendly email requesting the removal of the pics on the premise that they were shot inside a private area, a.k.a. the Italian automaker's Maranello factory. In other news, all pictures of the 599 GTO are available on the internet.]
As the world gets closer to the official reveal of Ferrari's 599 GTO, and just a short while after the price list was leaked, the internet has spewed out what appear to be pics of an official GTO show car.
Distinguishing features appear to include a new wheel design, duck tail spoiler and design cues straight off the 599XX (such as the matte black roof, extra cooling vents in the hood/fenders, angry rear diffuser and other aerodynamic bits). Too bad we can't see the face and driver's compartment. Anyway, we're sure those will show up soon enough.
What is claimed to be the official price list for Ferrari's upcoming piece of nostalgia, the 599 GTO (see spy video here), has supposedly leaked on the web. Those interested are looking at an initial investment of €267,136 (~$355,000) before taxes and options.
No official numbers have been released, but speculation points at around 650-700 horsepower and a significant weight reduction providing a much more intense driving experience than the 599 HGTE.
There's been a lot of talk lately about Ferrari's plans to revive the GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato) nameplate in its lineup with a special edition version of its 599 GTB Fiorano. Now, a Youtube user has uploaded a short video of what appears to be a prototype model of the 599 GTO testing at the Nurburgring.
The first GTO since the launch of the iconic 288 GTO in 1984 (see picture on the left) is said to be a stripped-down version of the standard 599 GTB fitted with exotic materials and a pumped up 6.0-liter V12 producing over 650 horsepower.
It is believed that the 599 GTO will break cover at this fall's Paris Motor Show. Until we find out more details, follow the jump to watch the video.
