Switzer's New "Everyday" 1,000HP Nissan GT-R Ultimate Street Edition

One thousand horsepower is an attainable number by tuners these days, but understandably, when you push a car to its limits, it becomes very difficult to deal with under normal driving conditions.

Switzer Performance has been offering a 1,000 wheel-horsepower R1KX package for the Nissan GT-R since 2010, but it’s a hardcore tune that needs careful maintenance and is more suitable for the track than on the road.

Now, the Oberlin, Ohio-based company has come with a new performance tune for the GT-R named the Ultimate Street Edition or USE, which it promises to offer 1,000-horses that you can use on a daily basis.

"Far too often, I talk to people who think that what they want is that last thousandth of a second, regardless of the cost," says Tym Switzer, owner and founder of the company that bears his name.

"For the few that can really wrap their heads around what that means – that the car will shift abruptly, that it'll run hot in traffic, and that they'll have to run specialized racing fuels in order to get the most out of the car and keep it happy. For them, our R1KX or XXX GTRs will give them what they want: the baddest, fastest GTR that money can buy," explains Switzer.

Fun Times: 1970s Lada 2101 Drag Races a Porsche 911 Carrera RS and a Nissan GT-R with 1,000HP

Who said that only exotic supercars and muscular pony cars are allowed to steal the limelight at the drag strip?

If anything else, an unpretentious VAZ 2101 from the 1970s (better known with the Lada brand name outside the former Soviet Union), is bound to draw attention simply for being what it is…

But you should know by now that looks can be very deceiving sometimes and this cherry-red Lada created by the Vintic & Spuntic Workshop has 240 ponies neatly packed under its rickety hood.

Oh Russia, Cops in Pursuit of Lime Green Nissan GT-R…

With all the odd and crazy things we have seen taking place on Russian roads thanks to the widespread use of dashboard mounted cameras over the past years, one could say that nothing surprises us anymore.

All the same, we cannot say that we remember seeing a police officer filming a pursuit on a hand held camera (or cell phone), but we guess there is a first for everything in Russia these days… Perhaps the explanation is that the cop was an avid fan of the Nissan GT-R, who knows.

Anyway, the two Moscow cops in the Ford Focus managed to catch up to the lime-green Nissan GT-R R35, but only because the latter gave up. One of the police officers approaches the car, politely tips his hat and asks for the driver's license and registration. The driver then exits the GT-R and gets into the cop's car, at which point the video ends.

First Examples of Nissan's Edgier GT-R Track Pack Edition Arrive in Britain

Aimed at drivers who require a faster, lighter and harder GT-R, the new Track Pack Edition of Nissan's sports car has arrived in the UK. The new model carries a £10,000 (US$16,000) premium over the standard GT-R, which brings the on-the-road price to £84,450.

Currently, the GT-R Track Pack Edition is available exclusively in right-hand drive and only in the UK and Japan, but Nissan has confirmed that left-hand drive models will be offered later this year in most markets around the world except Russia, Ukraine and for the time being, North America.

On the outside, the new GT-R model rides on new six-spoke RAYS alloy wheels with gloss black centers that weigh 10kg (22 pounds) less than the standard fittings.

It also gets additional brake cooling ducts built into the new carbon front splitter that are said to reduce the operating temperature by as much 100 degrees in track use, whilst similar ducts hidden behind the rear wheels channel cooling air over the rear discs.

Spied: Nissan to Enter 24h Nürburgring Race with Production GT-R Track Pack Edition

Before 2008, the “old” Nürburgring, aka Nordschleife, was a very demanding track deemed too dangerous for Formula 1 racing, but car manufacturers used it for testing purposes and on certain days, any mere mortal could drive his or her car for as many laps as they could afford.

Nissan changed all that by making the 7’29’’ lap time recorded by the new GT-R a key point of its launch campaign. It also sparked a war of words with Porsche and perhaps more importantly, made posting a competitive lap time at the ‘Ring a must for every new sports car.

In the four years since its launch, Nissan has been constantly honing the R35 GT-R, upgrading almost every mechanical part, from the chassis to the suspension and the engine.

This is because Kazutoshi Mizuno, program director of the GT-R development team, believes that no matter how good the car is, “the customer always wants more”. It has also resulted in the 2013MY model cutting 9 seconds off the original lap time.

U Spot: Nissan GT-R Station Wagon in Portugal

An estate model isn't something most people would normally notice, unless it rides on huge wheels, sitting very low to the ground and features the front of a Nissan GT-R R35; that's a combo bound to draw the attention of any petrolhead...

One such model rightfully caught the eye of Carscoop reader Daniel Esteves, who snapped a couple of shots and sent them over our way.

Corvette Z06 Chases a Nissan GT-R Around the Track Until it Surrenders

What Nissan has managed to do with the R35 GT-R is nothing short of amazing, as the Japanese carmaker's flagship model has become the de facto standard in the sports car world upon which all other vehicles are judged.

Of course, we should never forget that another important factor that weighs in at any type of race is the driver and how capable he or she is behind the wheel.

The video that follows, isn't a race per se, as the drivers of the Corvette Z06 and Nissan GT-R running at the MotorSport Ranch Performance Car Country Club in Texas were probably there to do some hot laps around the track, but still, the chase that ensued makes for a pretty interesting watch.

Confirmed: Nissan will Offer New GT-R Track Pack in Left-Hand Drive Markets, but Not Yet in the U.S.

Many of you might remember that one of the most important changes to the new model year Nissan GT-R (sold as a 2013MY in North America, and a 2012MY in Europe and other parts of the world) was the addition of a new, street-legal track-focused edition named Track Pack.

At the time, Nissan told us that the GT-R Track Pack would be available exclusively for right-hand drive models in Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa, with sales starting this month.

Either Nissan changed its mind or the company was holding back on us because we learned that the GT-R Track Pack will be available on left-hand drive cars as well with production to begin in May.

"The vehicle will be available on Left hand drive version from May production," Christophe Amblard, a product manager for Nissan Europe, told Carscoop. "It will be available for the same markets as in the GT-R is sold currently except for Russia and Ukraine," he added.

750HP Aston Martin vs 626HP Mercedes SLR McLaren vs 560HP Nissan GT-R

Here's further proof that horsepower numbers can be hugely deceiving. A completely stock Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren with 626-ponies goes up against a lightly tuned Nissan GT-R with a Stage 2 kit and 560-horses and in a separate race, an Aston Martin DBS upgraded with a supercharger by Mansory pushing out 750-horsepower.

To see how the one mile (1.6 kilometers) drag strip race went down, hit the break to watch the short video clip.

AMS Performance's 1,602awhp Nissan GT-R Runs the 1/4 Mile in a Record Breaking 8.63 Seconds!

After breaking the world record for the fastest Nissan R35 GT-R at the Texas Mile event last October with its Alpha 12 model that reached a top speed of 216.9mph (349km/h), AMS Performance has shuttered yet another record.

This time, the aftermarket-tuning house brought its new Alpha Omega GT-R, which was recently dyno'ed at 1,602 all-wheel horsepower with a maximum torque of 1,152 lb-ft (1,562Nm), to the drag strip.

The monstrous R35 completed the quarter mile sprint in a blazingly fast 8.6263 seconds with an exit speed of 173.8mph (279.7km/h) on the first run of the day, setting a new world record, according to AMS Performance.

One Very Lucky Nissan GT-R Driver Avoids Wall Not Once, Not Twice but Thrice

While straight-line races in a protected environment like a drag strip are considered relatively safe compared to other forms of racing, that doesn't necessarily make them fool-proof as things can go wrong for a great number of reasons.

In this quarter mile race between two Nissan GT-R coupes, one of the drivers lost control of the car shortly after taking off and began turning around missing both walls by inches. Very lucky indeed.

Head past the jump to watch the video clip.
