But there's also another side to Dubai's automotive scene, one less ritzy but equally gaudy at times.

Beep, Beep, It's the Real Life Road Runner!

From the "slightly odd but kinda cool" files comes this video of a sprightly ostrich that was filmed sharing the road with passenger cars in Saudi Arabia.

At some point and after being harassed by an SUV, the large bird stumbled and exited the road entering the parking lot of what looks like a food joint, which it circled around and re-entered the traffic!

The ostrich is a flightless but extremely fast bird that can run at over 70km/h (44mph) for as long as 30 minutes. The video awaits you after the break.

An alarming set of five videos showing a U.S. security contractor formerly known as Blackwater (the company has since changed its name to Academi) performing malicious acts on Iraqi roads are making the internet rounds.

The footage that dates back to 2006 was published online by Harper’s Magazine as part of a special feature in this month's edition titled "The Warrior Class: A golden age for the freelance soldier". Saudi Driver Rolls Over a 2012 Lexus LX 570 on the Sand Dunes

With all these crazy internet videos of mostly amateur drivers performing amateur yet often dangerous stunts on and off the road in Saudi Arabia, one has to believe that owning a car dealership and/or a repair shop must be an extremely lucrative business in the country.

Carscoop reader 'Stallion' tipped us off about another mishap that occurred on the sand dunes of the Saudi Arabian desert when the driver of a 2012 Lexus LX 570 somehow managed to flip over the large SUV.

Toyota Reveals New Strategy, will Roll Out Three Global FWD Platforms

It's time for a strategic change over at Toyota as the Japanese automaker today announced a new framework for vehicle development that will affect all brands within the group with the aim of lowering costs, reducing launch times as well as making its vehicles more appealing both in terms of styling and handling.

A core element of the firm's new strategy is the development of new global vehicle architectures that are to be shared across the world, a move that Toyota claims will ultimately help in the creation of better cars.

"Cooperation between planning and design divisions will result in a revised vehicle body structure with which new platforms will feature a lower center of gravity and bolder styling," said Toyota in a statement. "This will help to realize the development of cars with never-before-seen emotional designs and superb handling."

One-Off Pininfarina Hyperion Found for Sale in Abu Dhabi Dealership

As impossible as it may seem for us mere mortals, even one-off special creations can quickly become mundane for extremely wealthy individuals.

Rolls-Royce collector Roland Hall from Britain, custom ordered the Hyperion from Pininfarina back in 2008 only to put the car up for sale a year later for €4.5 million (roughly US$6 million at today's exchange rates).

We're not aware if the car was actually sold at the time, but we re-discovered the Rolls Royce Hyperion listed for sale for an undisclosed price at an Abu Dhabi dealership.

Named after Hyperion, one of the Titans of Greek mythology, the convertible model was designed by Jason Castriota of former Saab fame and built by the Special Projects division of Pininfarina.

It is based on the running gear of the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe with power coming from the British model's 6.75-liter V12 engine.
