Nisan Resurrects Cima Nameplate in Japan with a New Sedan Based on Stretched Infiniti M35h

Nearly two years after Nissan discarded its flagship model series in Japan, the Cima nameplate returns for another round in the premium sedan segment.

The Cima was introduced in Japan in the late 1980s to rival the Toyota Crown Majesta. From the mid-1990s, the Cima was based on the equivalent versions of the Infiniti Q45 series.

For its re-introduction in the Japanese market, Nissan chose to base the Cima on the long-wheelbase version of the Infiniti M35h, a China market-only model that made its world premiere at this week's Beijing Motor Show.

Like its Chinese counterpart, the Cima features a 5.9-inch (150mm) longer wheelbase than the standard Infiniti M and a rear passenger area highlighted by the additional legroom and many comfort amenities like the entertainment system and the power-reclining, heated and cooled seats.

Why You Shouldn't Play Wise Guy on the Highway

As the saying goes, there's a time and a place for everything. And stopping on the left lane of a busy highway with the intent of scolding the following vehicle's driver for supposedly approaching too close to your car is beyond doubt the wrong time and wrong place for such a move.

See what happens next from the footage recorded on the trailing vehicle's dashboard mounted camera.

Is Infiniti getting Ready to Drag Race the M Hybrid Against the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid?

Just moments ago, Infiniti dropped an email into our inbox pointing us to a video on YouTube titled "What is the fastest accelerating full hybrid?" The short clip shows a driver dressed like The Stig entering a Porsche Panamera S Hybrid and getting ready to race the sports saloon in the desert.

Infiniti's email also notes, "Check out this teaser video and let us know where you think it’s going…. Don’t miss the results, coming January 23rd, 2012".

Since we find it hard to believe that the Japanese automaker would create a promotional campaign for Porsche and its new Panamera Hybrid we think it's all about showing the potential of the also new M Hybrid (called M35h in certain markets).

NHTSA Probes '03-'04 Infiniti M45 Sedans over Inaccurate Fuel Gauge Reading

For various reasons, it's not uncommon for drivers to run their cars on empty before filling up at a gas station - which isn't usually a problem if the fuel gauge reading is accurate.

However, for a number of owners of the short-lived Infiniti M45 sedan from the 2003 and 2004 model years, waiting for the low fuel warning light to go up before visiting a service station, can prove to be troublesome.

Infiniti’s 2012 M Hybrid Campaign Takes a Swipe at Lexus GS 450h

‘Remember’ is the name of Infiniti’s new campaign for the 2012 M Hybrid, which is set to launch in the USA in spring of 2011 with prices starting from $53,700. The 31 second spot takes us on a quick journey through the history of hybrids, beginning with the first hybrid car in 1888, to the hybrid patent in 1909, and through the hybrids of the 1970s on to today’s hybrid models including the Lexus GS 450h, which can be seen in the ad parked on the road.

According to Infiniti, the 2012 M Hybrid directly challenges “the notion that you can’t have great performance and great fuel economy” adding that its model is the only car in America that delivers 360 horsepower and 32 miles-per-gallon (highway) – combined fuel economy is rated at 29mpg.

There’s no mention in the commercial on the model that single handedly made hybrids a household word bringing the technology to the masses – we’re talking of course about the first generation Toyota Prius.

Infiniti Wants to Double its European Sales this Year

Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti aims to double its sales in Europe during the 2011 fiscal year, according to company officials. The expected growth will be fueled not only by the introduction of new models and powertrain options, but also by the expansion of its dealer network.

"In 2011, Western Europe will be somewhere between 7,000 and 8,000 units" said Infiniti Europe Vice President Jim Wright in an interview with Automotive News. That is a substantial increase over the 4,500 units sold in the 2010 fiscal year ending March 31, albeit still not even close to challenging the other premium automakers in Europe (i.e. BMW sold 45,600 cars in January 2011 alone).

Infiniti Dealer in Germany Presents Tuning Package for M30d

Given that Infiniti is making its first steps in Europe, very few tuners in the market have touched the Japanese brand's products. Having said that, it shouldn't come as a surprise that an Infiniti dealer has stepped in to fill the void. In particular, Infiniti Centre Hamburg in Germany has released two tuning packages for the recently launched diesel-powered M30d.
